Author/Workshop Presenter

Devora Kaye attends Vanderbilt University in Nashville Tennessee where she continues to provide service as an Ingram Scholar. She currently serves as a Youth Commissioner on the Tennessee Commission on National and Community Service. She has explored social entrepreneurship as a StartingBloc Fellow, and has completed service internships at the United Nations in Geneva working on Human Rights Issues for Indigenous Populations, and taught English to children in Thailand. While studying overseas in the south of France, she interned with the French Socialist Party during the fall 2006 primaries.

Devora has published two unique and original service learning books. Conversation Starters as Easy As ABC 123 -- how to start conversations with people with memory loss, began through a service learning experience while in 8th grade at Lincoln Middle School in Santa Monica.
“We were doing a service project at a day care center for adults with memory loss. Knowing how to start and carry on a conversation can be tricky at first. This book helps young people to become at ease by providing ideas for conversations. It works!”

Her second book, INCREASE THE PEACE -- The ABCs of Tolerance, written during her sophomore year in high school, provides inspiring suggestions on meaningful ways to become involved in community building.

Proceeds from the sales of Devora’s books are donated to the Deanna Maran Foundation for Non Violence. http://www.maranfoundation.org.

Devora has presented workshops on writing books and on youth leadership and program development at numerous National Service Learning Conferences, Florida State Service-Learning Conference, the Louisiana State Service Learning Conference, and a Youth and Service Learning State Conference in Nevada.
